The Toaster

When my son was two or three and learning the ways of American life, he watched me place some bread in both slots
of our toaster so that it would be ready to cook just before serving.

Considering the opportunity, he pulled a chair to the counter and politely asked, “Mommy, may I flush the toaster?”
